Chitwan district is situated at subtropical inner terai lowlands, western part of Narayani zone, and central development region of Nepal in south Asia. Chitwan inner valley situated inner Terai between Mahabharat and Siwalik ranges. There are about 40 Village Development Committees and one sub-Metropolitan city Bharatpur and a municipality Ratnanagar each of which has more than nine urban areas. Chitwan is famous for mustard plantation. It is also famous for floriculture, mushroom cultivation and bee keeping also.
Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal and most beautiful national park of south Asia. Formerly called Royal Chitwan National Park, established in 1973 and granted the status of Natural World Heritage Site in 1984 by UNESCO. It covers an area of 932 Sqkm. In altitude it ranges from about 100 meters in the river valleys to 815 meters in the Churia Hills. It has a particularly rich flora and fauna. One of the last populations of endangers spices of one-horned Asiatic rhinoceros and Bengal tiger lives in Chitwan Park. Main attractive activities of Chitwan are elephant safaris, jungle walks, Elephant Bathing, canoeing and cultural activities and visiting Elephant Breeding Center, Crocodile Farm etc. It is an opportunity to familiar with Tharu people, culture, tradition and their life style also.
