Dhorpatan hunting trek is less crowded and off the beaten path trekking trail of Dhaulagiri region. Dhorpatan hunting reserve is also an attractive destination of Dhaulagiri trekking. Controlled hunting is allowed with proper license and certain seasons in the year. Hunting permit and license is issued by the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation in Kathmandu. Dhorpatan hunting trek offers an opportunity to discover areas, which remain practically, untouched and still retain an idiosyncratic lifestyle without being affected by western influences. Dhorpatan hunting Reserve lies between Rukum, Myagdi and Baglung districts in Dhaulagiri range in West of Nepal. Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve was established in 1983 covers 1325 sqkm.
Dhorpatan hunting reserve is the only one spot in Nepal where licensed hunting is permitted. Dhorpatan hunting reserve is characterizing by alpine, sub-alpine and high temperate vegetation. Common plant species include fir, pine, birch, rhododendron, hemlock, oak, juniper and spruce. Dhorpatan hunting reserve is divided into six blocks for hunting management purposes. The reserve’s elevation ranges from 2,850m to more than 7,000m. It is provide excellent mountain views of the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna range. Dhorpatan is the prime habitats of blue sheep, a highly prized trophy animal, which is the main target of hunters. Other game species are Ghoral, Serow, Himalayan Tahr, Black Bear Pheasant and Partridge.
