Dashain is the national festival of Nepal which is a 15 days celebration but five days are most important days. It is a promising and traditional festival that is being celebrated by all the Nepalese in the world. Nepalese celebrate Dashai by buying new clothes, eating good food and visiting family members.

It is one of the longest festivals as well the most waited too. The main aspect about this festival is that goddess Durga “Shakthi” is being worshiped in all of her appearances. It is believe that goddess Durga is the source of life and everything and worshiped for pleased good fortunes.

Tihar (Diwali) is being celebrated in Nepal. It is also called as Deepawali (festival of light). It is usually a five days program. In these 5 days of celebration, people worship certain animals and gods. On the first day, the crows are being worshiped. The second day is meant for the dogs to be worshiped, and then it is followed by cows on the third day.

Either on the 2nd or the 3rd day goddess Laxmi is worshipped by the people. The 4th and 5th day is spent by worshipping the oxen as well as the brothers. The fifth days is most important, it called Bhai tika (the festival of brother and sisters). Sisters will give seven colors Tika with blessing for the long life and offer gift, delicious meals, clothes and brothers also will provide gift, souvenir for sister as well. Sisters also worship the god of death (Yamaraja) which is believed that it will improve the lifetime of their brothers.

Chhath is one of the prehistoric festivals that are being celebrated to thank the sun god Surya for nourishing the lives on the earth and people also pray for fulfilling their wishes.
