Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve is a protected area covers an area 175 sq. km, Saptari and Sunsari Districts of Eastern Nepal. Wildlife reserve is one of the finest birding sites of Asia. It is the bird’s watchers paradise; more than 440 species of birds have been recorded including those that arrive from Siberia and Tibet from November to February.

Koshitappu wildlife reserve was established in 1976 to protect the grassland and islands in the floodplains of Sapta Koshi River. Wildlife reserve is the main only one habitat of Arna (wild 
water buffalo) in Nepal. Globally threatened species of bird were found in this area include Black-necked Stork, Red-necked Falcon, Bengal Florican, Greater Adjutant Stork, lesser Adjutant Stork, Baer’s Pochard, Great stone Plover, Black-bellied Tern, Dusky eagle Owl, Swamp Francolin, Marsh Warbler etc.
This reserve is the habitat of wild animals like wild water buffalo, wild boar, hog deer, spotted deer, blue bell and jackal, Gharial crocodile and Gangetic dolphin etc. It is the perfect destination for bird watching and jungle safari.
