Mount Nanga Parbat is situated in western Himalayas and is 17 miles away from Astor, which is in the Pakistani sector of Kashmir. With an altitude of 8126m, Nanga Parbat is considered as one among the tallest mountains of the world. Mount Nanga Parbat is also known as Diamir.Mount K2

The north side of this mountain drops about 7000m to the Indus River. Many early climbers to this peak perished during their attempt including Albert F. Mummery, the British Alpine climber who made the first attempt. The first successful ascent to NangaParbat was by the Austrian climber Hermann Buhl in the year 1953.

Among the highest mountains of the world Nanga Parbat is at the 9th place and it is the 14th most prominent mountain of the world. This mountain range lies along the Gilgit-Baltistan region of North Pakistan. Diamir, Rakhiot and Rupal are the three major faces of this peak.

The Rupal Face on the southern side is the highest mountain face in the world at a height of 4600m. The huge ridges, hanging glaciers and the steep ice make it one of the most dangerous mountain faces.
