Nar phu valley trek trip details
The travelers who are interested to venture in to a trek that is rarely visited and leading to a remote place can choose the Nar Phu valley trek. The Nar Phu valley trek passes through the two remote villages Nar and Phu and also through dense forests, yaks, monasteries and the Kang la pass.
Nar, phu gaon has been opened for trekking since 2003 for foreigners. In the villages travelers can have the taste of unique Himalayan cultures. Bhulbhule is the starting place of Nar Phu valley trek. One can reach Bhulbhule by road from Kathmandu in seven hours. The Nar Phu valley consists of snow capped peaks, grazing settlements at high altitude and ancient villages.
Phu is a pilgrimage center for the Buddhists from Nepal. They visit the Tashi Lhakhang Gompa and seek the blessings of Lama Karma Sonam Rimpoche. The villages here and the alpine valleys above Phu are quite amazing. The spectacular Kang la pass is at an altitude of 5306m the highest elevation of this trip.
The trekkers to Nar Phu valley take the same trail as Annapurna circuit trek. At Koto, the trekkers cross the Marshyangdi River. During the Nar Phu valley trek, the trekkers will get the views of Annapurna II, Gangapurna and Tilicho peak. Those who want to take the Annapurna circuit trek proceed further for Manang.
Others come back from Manang to Bhulbhule from where they drive back to Kathmandu. Those who proceed through the Thorong La Pass can reach Jomsom. Those who go for the Nar Phu valley trek can have either camping trek or tea house trek. Basic accommodation and food with Nepalese dishes are available at the tea houses. The Nar Phu valley trek is adventurous and less traveled.
Chorten gate is the entrance to Nar Phu valley. The pine forests, Tibetan villages that are built of stone, ancient Buddhist monasteries and spectacular views of Annapurna range are the attractions of this trek. The maximum number of snow leopards is found in the Nar Phu valley area. Those who proceed through the Thorong La Pass which is at an altitude of 5416m reach the holy village of Muktinath.
From Muktinath the trek goes to Kagbeni, the gateway of Upper Mustang. Those who want to fly back to Kathmandu take the flight from the Jomsom airstrip. The recently opened picturesque Nar Phu valley has the Trans Himalayan topography, quite similar to Tibet. The trails here still remain rugged. Nar and Phu valley trek takes you to a remote but alluring region of Nepal.
It requires previous high land hiking experience to cross Kang la pass, if same way back then not necessary. Best months of the year for this trek are March to May and August to December. Exploration of this remote valley is the most exciting part of the Nar Phu valley trek.
