Trekkers Information Management System permit – TIMS Nepal
Trekkers Information Management System permit TIMS Nepal is used to maintain the data of trekkers who visit different trekking regions of Nepal. Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) have occurrence to put into operation the TIMS from 1st January 2008 to daunting illegal trekking operation. All foreign trekkers going on trekking in different areas of the country are required to obtain a TIMS slip/certificate. Unlike trekking registration certificate (TRC), the TIMS slips will be made available to trekkers.
Trekking companies, who are members of TAAN, will be used as TIMS counters. TAAN central office in Kathmandu and its regional chapter in Pokhara will also issue the TIMS. If it is necessary, NTB will open its counter to issue the slips for Free Individual Tourists (Fits). There are two types of TIMS card: blue certificate for the organized trekkers and green card for free individual trekkers (FIT), trekkers can get TIMS from Base Camp Excursion Pvt. Every trekker has to compulsorily obtain a TIMS card before enter any trekking regions and routes. A Free individual trekker (FIT) or organized group trekkers are required to keep TIMS along with them throughout their treks. TIMS permit has to be shown to TAAN / NTB authorities, national park check posts, conservation area check posts and police check posts on demand. Trekkers are required to keep their copies of passports along with them for verification during trekking.
TIMS permit Nepal shall be non-transferable, non-endorsable and valid only for single entry. FITs need to have Green TIMS cards by paying Nepali currency equivalent to US $ 20 per person, while those traveling in groups need to have Blue TIMS card by paying Nepali currency equivalent to US $ 10 per person.
